Local Gas-Fired Generation
The procurement of gas-fired generation required for local area supply and transmission relief. These projects are as follows:
- Southwest Greater Toronto Area (GTA) - 850 MW of combined-cycle gas-fired capacity;
- GTA - 550 MW of simple-cycle gas-fired capacity;
- Northern York Region - 350 MW of simple-cycle gas-fired capacity; and
- Kitchener-Waterloo/Cambridge/Guelph - 450 MW of gas-fired generation
Local Transmission
Transmission proponents will carry out the necessary development work on the transmission projects recommended in the IPSP. Certain of these transmission projects, in addition to meeting the supply mix goals, are aimed at ensuring regional and local area reliability in Windsor-Essex, Central and Downtown Toronto and Milton.

The following projects are in various stages of planning or procurement (projects will be added as they become active):
 | Bruce Transmission The transmission system in the Bruce area of the province is already at or very near capacity and needs attention. More transmission will be required when nuclear units at Bruce Power are restored and when new wind power comes on stream.

 | Northern York Region The electricity demand in Northern York Region is beyond the planned capacity of the existing infrastructure. It is crucial that new supply options be pursued. |
 | Southwestern GTA The GTA has experienced dynamic growth in population and economic activity over the past several years. This is particularly true of western and southern parts of the GTA, which includes Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Vaughan and parts of western Toronto. |
 | Windsor-Essex The Windsor-Essex area, with approximately 410,000 people, has one of the highest demands for electricity in Ontario. The area is serviced by a network of 115 and 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission lines and several transformer stations. |
