First Nations and Métis Communities
The OPA is seeking to engage with First Nation and Métis communities to discuss:
As with the consultations conducted by the OPA on the IPSP in early 2007, a record of First Nations and Métis concerns heard during the December 2008 and 2009 consultations will be filed with the OEB as part of an open and transparent process. Edited excerpt, letter to First Nation and Métis leaders from Colin Andersen, Chief Executive Officer, Ontario Power Authority, December 2, 2008. If you have questions or comments about the information related to the Ontario Power Authority’s First Nation and Métis Department website, please send us an email at: feedback.fnm@powerauthority.on.ca. The Ontario Power Authority and the Ontario Government view First Nations and Métis perspectives as an important dimension in developing and implementing an electricity plan for the province as it moves to a cleaner, greener system.
In 2006, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) initiated a broad scale, multi-element pilot program specifically to promote energy conservation among Aboriginal communities across Ontario.
First Nations and Métis communities are playing a greater role in shaping Ontario’s power future and participating in the development of energy supply.
The OPA first undertook consultation with First Nations and Métis communities on the Integrated Power System Plan (IPSP) in early 2007.
The Ontario Power Authority on August 29, 2007 filed an application for approval of the Integrated Power System Plan with the Ontario Energy Board. Exhibit C includes the evidence of the OPA’s engagement with First Nations and Métis communities, IPSP discussion papers, and stakeholder submissions.
